Predictable and cheesy are two words that can describe the movie No Good Deed. Or you could simply say it’s a no good movie.
But this should be no surprise. It’s not like the previews make this flick out to be an Oscar winner. It would probably struggle to win at the MTV Movie Awards. Though it would never win an oscar, it does have Oscar nominee Taraji P. Henson in the cast. Her performance in this supposed thriller would never earn her a golden man.
Henson is known for movies like Hustle & Flow, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and more recently Think Like a Man Too. She’s no new comer to the big screen, but one can wonder what made her sign on to a project like No Good Deed. It’s probably the fact that her producer from her latest film was also attached to this one.
Will Packer has produced many films in Hollywood; including Ride Along, Takers and Stomp the Yard.
And then there’s Idris Elba. The studly British actor has worked up to be quite the leading man in the United States and even more so back in England. Elba has starred in films like Thor, Takers and the hit series Luther. He was most likely the biggest draw in for viewers to give this flick a chance at the theater this weekend – it earned $24.5 million at the box office.
Even with the multimillion dollar open and the trio of Packer, Henson and Elba, you can still call this “thriller” a flop. It’s far too predictable for any of the moments to be truly scary, and is actually more funny than thrilling. Maybe if they would have put this movie under the proper genre it would be more successful.
To give you a quick overview, Elba plays a sadistic man named Colin who thrives on terrorizing women. He comes across Henson’s character,Terri, who’s at home alone with her two children. Colin claims he needs to use Terri’s phone to call a tow truck as he lost control of his car. When Terri discovers his true intentions the plot escalates to be semi-violent as she fights to protect her kids. That’s pretty much the gist of the entire movie, so you can save yourself the 10 bucks, because remember no good deed goes unpunished.
