Chicago Talks, January 21, 2015

Film Screening, Research Presentation, and Discussion – open to the public, free.

Hosted by the University of Chicago Consortium on Chicago School Research and The School Project:

David and Reva Logan Center for the Arts, Performance Hall
University of Chicago
Thursday, January 22nd
6:30 P.M. – 9:30 p.m.

The second installment in The School Project film series, Chicago’s Public Schools: Closed will explore the major event in 2013 that sparked the filmmaker team to begin this project: the closing of 49 Chicago Public Schools, and the ongoing debate over that decision’s impact.

The event will begin with a screening of the resulting 10-minute film, a presentation of new research on the 2013 school closings from the University of Chicago’s Consortium on School Research on how the closings affected students, and a panel discussion moderated by Laura Washingon with education experts and voices chosen through public feedback.

Panelists include: Jesse Ruiz of the Board of Education; Jitu Brown of the Journey for Justice Alliance, Executive Director of Greenhouse Fellowship and former Chicago Public School teacher Asif Wilson; and Elaine Allensworth of the Consortium on Chicago School Research.
