Jack’s Pumpkin Pop-Up brings a rural theme to an urban neighborhood

By Andrew Willigman

In the fall, Chicago takes on a festive feel, and Jack’s Pumpkin Pop-Up is right in the middle of it. The lot fills up with pumpkins, hay bales, and neon signs, making it a great spot for photos. As the night progresses, visitors seem to focus more on the decorations rather than the activities. “It has a lot of Halloween stuff, worth it if you’re coming to take pictures. But if you’re looking for a hangout, I don’t think it’s worth it,” says Alondra Muñoz, 19. Amanda Dunn adds, “It’s more for pictures than doing pumpkin stuff,” while Carlos Salazar notes, “My expectations were met, but I didn’t really enjoy it.” Still, Jack’s captures the city’s ability to create joy and seasonal celebration, even in the heart of downtown.

A sign reading “And when I’m back in Chicago, I feel it,” is a reminder that Jack’s is an urban experience.
Glowing jack-o’-lanterns show off the spirit of fall.
Under glistening lights and a dramatic sky, Jack’s Pumpkin Pop-Up comes alive.
Visitors gather under a sign that reads “Best Fall Ever,” taking pictures that highlight the event: bright lights, bold colors and a sense of community in the heart of the city.
