More than 1,000 protesters marched through the streets Saturday evening stopping traffic as hundreds of Chicago Police Department officers barricaded routes.
What looked to be in the hundreds at first at Congress Avenue and State Street Saturday early evening turned into more than 1,000 late that evening with a a handful of arrests.
A few protesters claimed they were injured by police.
Demonstrators made their through major junctions like Washington and LaSalle halting traffic.
The demonstrators chanted sayings like, “The horses are the 99 percent,” and “You’re sexy, you’re cute, take off that riot suit.” Among the protesters were members of Occupy Chicago, FTP, and May Day.
While there were times of confusion and complete disarray about where the protesters were headed and where they were going, the demonstration gathered large amounts of people.
There was some vandalism on the glass door of the T-Mobile on East Randolph Street and someone painted a large lime green anarchist sign. There was a small group of men dressed all in black and one carried a spray can. Once the movement hit the intersection at State and Washington Streets, a woman was injured. Someone called “Medic!”
Volunteer first aid workers rushed in to help what looked like a young woman in her early 20s bleeding from her forehead.
Stunned and shocked the girl was taken away only seconds before another medic was called. Another female was rushed away with a bruised eye and a small cut above her eyebrow.
