Story by Judith Jackson

Located at 1720 N. California Ave in Chicago’s Puerto Rican side of the city, Humboldt Park, there is a restaurant called The Borinquen, where they specialize in making the famous Puerto Rican dish known as the Jabarito.

Not a very fancy resturant, but a very special place for families to go to and relax while experiencing a taste of either their own culture or trying something new. The Jabarito is a sandwich, made on plantain, with mayonase, shredded chicken, beef, or pork, with lettuce and tomato, with just a dash of garlic spices to set off the taste, served with a side of brown rice, this dish is an exquisite meal to try.

Restaurant hours are from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Mondays – Thursdays, and from 10 a.m. to midnight on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. For more information, call the restaurants direct line at 1 (773) 227-6038.
