Tonight as storms and lightning hit the Chicago area, there were flash flood warnings. There was steady rain, and some flooding, but drivers braved the high water in some areas, and drove on.
On Clark St. between 15th and 16th street, there was flooding under a railroad bridge. It slowed traffic, but no cars stalled or got stuck.
After about 40 minutes, the water started to subside, and cars could pass under the viaduct easily again. Several buses (Route 24 and R-22) had to be diverted when the water was at its peak. It stretched across both lanes of Clark and up over the curbs.
