Electronics Recycling Now Required – Here’s How at Columbia

Electronics Recycling is required by law owing to legislation that took effect January 1, 2012.

Here is a list of the electronic devices must now be recycled. The following items cannot be thrown into the trash:

Cable and satellite receivers, digital converter boxes

Computers (laptop, notebook, netbook, tablet) and monitors

Computer keyboards and mice

DVD players and recorders, VCRs

Fax machines

Portable digital music players

Printers and scanners

Small scale servers

Televisions

Video game consoles

The Recycling program also recycles techno-trash, including all jewel cases and inserts, CDs and DVDs, Computer discs (floppy discs + zip discs), DAT tapes, Mini discs, and VHS and cassette tapes.

Specially labeled techno-trash collections bins are located in the following areas:

1104 S. Wabash Ave. – Film & Video Department on floors 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7

33 E. Congress Pkwy. – Audio Arts & Acoustics basement studio and the 2nd, 6th, and 7th floor hallway

600 S. Michigan Ave. – 7th and 14th floor hallway

916 S. Wabash Ave. – 1st floor by the rear Interactive Arts + Media studio

1306 S. Michigan Ave. – 2nd floor

Columbia College Chicago must comply with this new order. If members of the Columbia College Community need to recycle any of the electronics listed above, please contact the recycling program, and appropriate personnel will retrieve the items.
