For some of today’s generation  the most popular words are “ratchet,” and “baddie”, but one woman in particular says words like these are destroying what women were actually made to be: modest and graceful.

“I think this is the only standard we have now,” said Tiheasha Beasley, who is the author of her first book, entitled “The Misconception of Modesty.”

“This is the only thing that we have in front of us, and this is what we see when we look at media today,” Beasley said. “Artists like Beyoncé Knowles or Nicki Minaj make a type of lifestyle look glamorous. Women are always looking for a role model and right now I feel there isn’t too many who are living a modest lifestyle.”

Beasley took the initiative to make the case for a modest lifestyle by releasing her first book entitled “The Misconception of Modesty” last year. She recently hosted a book release party at the Beverly Arts Center.

Although Beasley is self-published, she plans to republish her book with Charisma imprint publishing company or with another company by spring of 2014.

At her book release party, Beasley sat down with SC Media News and Sports CEO Joseph Phillips to share the qualities of what she believes modesty really is.

“Modesty is more than just how a woman dresses,” Beasley said. “Modesty should demonstrate her heart’s motives, her lifestyle with God, how she thinks, acts and reacts to the world around her.”

Beasley said she doesn’t feel that women today have a true role-model in media that displays the definition of modesty.

“Today we have a lot of Christian women who act like Christians, talk like Christians or just dress like Christians,” Beasley said. “I don’t know a woman in media who is living a lifestyle of modesty. However, I do believe there are some women in the church who are living a modest lifestyle.”

She said in the past, many Christian leaders have tried to tackle the issues of sensuality, immodesty and promiscuity, but have failed because of the cultural and society that overwhelms today’s generation.

“This has become a major problem within the Christian community,” Beasley said. “Instead of Christian women choosing to be the standard for beauty, attractiveness, and success we find some of them blending in with the world around them.”
