Story by Keri Lynch

Kids Off The Block (KOB) is a 501(c)3 organization that provides positive alternatives to at-risk low income youth to deter them from gangs, drugs, truancy, violence, and the juvenile justice system. Founded in July of 2003 by Ms. Diane Latiker, KOB has become a viable resource in the Roseland Community on the far Southside of Chicago. Ms. Latiker started the program literally in her living room.

KOB offers Tutoring/Mentoring, Music, Drama, and Sports as a resource to youth so they can achieve their dreams and goals. We accept ages 12 to 19 years old. Hours of operation are Monday thru Friday, 4pm to 8pm.

Kids Off The Block has 100 active youth, and a waiting list of 110. We also support youth with basic needs, such as coats, shoes, food, and stipends. Among it’s many accomplishments; KOB has received lots of media coverage for it’s impact in the community.
