In his groundbreaking new work, Urbanism in the Age of Climate Change, Peter Calthorpe shows how sustainable urbanism—community design that considers the traditional tenets of urbanism, with an added emphasis on conservation and regionalism—is essential to addressing climate change. He demonstrates that it will take an integrated approach of land use transformation, policy changes, and conservation to transition to a low carbon economy.
Peter Calthorpe is principal of Calthorpe Associates, an urban design, planning, and architecture firm based in Berkeley, California. He was named one of twenty-five “innovators on the cutting edge” by Newsweek for his work in redefining the models of urban and suburban growth in America. You can hear him talk about his book on Monday, June 6.
Calthorpe will lecture 4:30–5:30pm and there will be reception afterwards at 224 S. Michigan Avenue (Lecture Hall, Chicago Architecture Foundation) Admission is free, but space is limited, so RSVP to kathrine@cnt.org • (773) 269-4031.
