An Alternative to the Violence in Englewood….Peace in the Parks!

The Resident Association of Greater Englewood aka R.A.G.E. is excited to kick off the So Fresh Saturday series for the summer at Sherwood Park, Saturday, June 29th, 5701 S. Shields Ave. from 4 p.m.-9 p.m.

So Fresh Saturdays is a community driven “edu-tainment” series that will showcase various artistic expressions and educational workshops focused on youth, entrepreneurship, hip hop, media, social networks, community activism, and culturally relevant history using music, film, and art.

As a part of the Chicago Park District’s Night Out in the Parks, this series is designed for all ages in an effort to create a safe space in the parks of the Englewood and West Englewood community.

“Our goal is to educate and entertain attendees while providing a “safe space” for the residents in Englewood and to utilize art as a form to spark social responsibility and intergenerational dialogue”, states Sonya Harper, Community Organizer of R.A.G.E.

Each event will include but is not limited to: performances from local artists, film showcases, forums, spoken word, art based workshops, youth café, peace circles, dance, and more. Local artists rooted in Englewood like “Ty-Green” and “Drunken Monkeee” are some of the performers who will be in attendance as well as community activists Willie Fleming Jr. of the Anti-Eviction Campaign, Sy Smith of the National Block Club University, Camiella Williams, an anti-violence activist and more.
