The Chicago City Council Wednesday passed separate ordinances aimed at revamping two parks in Chicago’s 2nd and 3rd wards.
Lowe Park, located in Ald. Pat Dowell’ 3rd Ward will be receiving a $550,000 facelift in TIF funds to revamp an existing field house, which is “extremely small and not modern enough for today’s uses,” Dowell said. The South Side park will be expanded and as a result, will be better suited for kids.
On the West Side, Ald. Robert Fioretti’s 2nd Ward houses Claremont Park, which will also be receiving an overhaul consisting of $250,000 in TIF funds and an additional $70,000 awarded by the Kohl’s Cares foundation.
“I think our parks are our social centers,” Fioretti said. “With all the potential uses we can have, it’s crucial in terms of quality of life for our citizens.”
